The population coverage of DNA’s 5G network exceeded one million – mobile data is now used more than ever

DNA has significantly expanded its 5G network in Finland, and the network is now available for more than one million people in 24 municipalities. The rapid construction of the 5G network continues while the 4G network is simultaneously being improved. DNA aims to reach a population coverage of over 1.5 million by the end of the year.

The construction of the network has proceeded in the planned timeframe despite the exceptional measures caused by COVID-19. DNA has caught up with any minor delays, and the swift expansion of the network will continue for the rest of the year.

“Next, we will focus on improving the network particularly in large urban areas, so construction will take place in the Helsinki metropolitan area and in the Turku and Tampere regions. Extensive coverage will also be made available in the city centres of Tampere and Turku. In the capital area, the 5G coverage in northern and western Helsinki as well as Espoo and Vantaa will expand significantly,” says Jarkko Laari,Director of Radio Networks at DNA.

DNA aims to reach a population coverage of over 1.5 million by the end of the year, which is almost 30% of Finland's population. In order to achieve this goal, the network will be developed in the existing regions as well as launched in completely new locations. This year, the network will be launched in Järvenpää, Kaarina, Kangasala, Kauniainen, Kerava, Naantali, Nurmijärvi and Hyrylä in Tuusula.

DNA’s 5G services are currently available in Espoo, Heinola, Helsinki, Hyvinkää, Hämeenlinna, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lahti, Lieto, Nokia, Oulu, Pirkkala, Pori, Raahe, Raisio, Rauma, Rusko, Seinäjoki, Sipoo, Tampere, Turku, Vaasa, Vantaa and Ylöjärvi.

World record in mobile data, sales of 5G phones are increasing

A recent report *) by research company Tefficient shows that, once again, DNA’s customers use the most mobile data per subscription in the entire world — up to 33.1 GB per month. The growth has been astonishing, as the usage was only 25.3 GB per month during the same time period last year.

DNA’s fast 5G network is a direct response to the increased demand for mobile data from both consumer and corporate customers. A higher-capacity network ensures that the customer experience remains on an excellent level despite the increase in traffic. At the same time, the faster speeds will increase data consumption even further.

5G phone sales also showed significant growth during the summer. The grandest sales launch was by the 5G phone OnePlus Nord 5G in late July. The phone immediately became the second most sold phone in August. Other 5G models on the best-selling phones list include Samsung Galaxy A51 5G (9th place) and OnePlus 8 5G (14th place). DNA offers 5G phones in almost all price ranges.
