Support for navigating digital everyday life with Digital Skills playing cards

The use of digital devices is a significant part of young people's daily lives. While these devices enable many positive things, there are also downsides associated with their use.

For this reason, it is important to ensure that youth have the necessary skills for the safe and smart use of digital devices. However, the level of digital skills among young people varies, which is why it is essential to provide them with support for navigating their digital lives. The playing cards from DNA and Plan International Finland are an excellent tool for practicing digital skills in schools—and why not in other contexts with youth as well.

A traditional deck of cards with digital-themed questions

Answers to the questions can be considered alongside any card game, or alternatively, the cards can be used as discussion cards.

The deck can also be played so that players draw one card at a time from the deck, and each answer earns a point.

Each suit in the deck represents a different theme related to digitalization. The content of the card deck is themed as follows:

Hearts: Digital well-being and the environment
Spades: Common rules online
Diamonds: Digital skills
Clubs: Cybersecurity

The digital skills playing cards support many broad competence objectives and are suitable for teaching various subjects. The cards are intended especially for basic education in upper secondary schools and for secondary education. The cards are written in plain language.

Hey teacher, would you like to use the cards?

Lapsilla on monia kehitysvaiheita yhtä aikaa meneillään, minkä vuoksi älylaitteiden oikeanlaiseen käyttöön on hyvä kiinnittää erityishuomiota.
